Winona Ryder

winona ryderStarting out as the star of several cult hits, Winona Ryder quickly forged a place in the heart of the liberal intelligentsia, as well as somehow retaining her status as teen heroine. Deliberately steering herself away from no-brain blockbusters and for the most part sticking to prestigious literary adaptations, she constantly sought to challenge herself as a professional and thus, like her more provocative peer Jennifer Jason Leigh, remained consistently worth watching. Her greatest challenge, though, would come in her thirties when, her reputation dented by a long string of failed and very public affairs and a tabloid-delighting spell in court over charges of shoplifting and illegal drug possession, she would have to reinvent herself as a serious adult actress.

She was born Winona Laura Horowitz on October 29th, 1971, Winona being the name of her hometown in Minnesota. Her father, Michael, was an atheist, writer and editor, who worked as an archivist for psychedelic guru Dr Timothy Leary (Winona’s godfather) and ran a bookstore named Flashback. Her mother, Cindy, a Buddhist, was also a writer and editor, and later produced educational videos. Deeply involved in the counter-culture, the couple were friends of Allen Ginsberg and amongst their editing works included Shaman Woman Mainline Lady, an anthology of classic writings on drug experiences, including a piece by (amazingly) Louisa May Alcott. Cindy had two children by a previous marriage – daughter Sunyata and son Jubal – then had Winona and another son, Yuri, with Michael. They would marry when Winona was 12.

At age 7, Winona moved with her family to a commune in the northern Californian town of Elk. Here they lived for several years with seven other families and numerous horses on a 300-acre plot. There was no TV, and Winona became a voracious reader, relating especially to The Catcher In The Rye. But her mother did show movies on a screen in the barn, exposing her curious daughter to all the classics and quickly engendering a desire to act. “Everyone walked around naked,” Ryder later explained. “It wasn’t a nightmare, but it was no Utopia as a child. In Northern California it gets really freezing in the winters. We had no electricity, no running water. Everyone was looking after everyone’s else’s kids and sometimes I just wanted my own family”.

Heidi Klum

heidi klumHeidi Klum was born in Berisch Gladbach, Germany, January 1, 1973. This supermodel star is 5′ 9″ with a tantalizing 35-24-34 body. She lived with her family in Bergisch Gladbach, a “small” large city within Cologne. Almost destined to be a fashion model, Heidi’s father, Gunther, worked for a cosmetics company, while her mother, Erna, was a hairdresser.

Heidi, while still in high school and then 18 years old, saw an ad in “Petra” magazine for a competition called “Model ’92″. Her friend encouraged her to send in some photos, and Heidi then traveled to Munich to compete on TV. She was intrigued by the idea, and she never even dreamed of the possibility of winning. Her friend encouraged her to send in some photos. What began as a “just for fun” contest, turned into a life-altering event for this beautiful model when she won the competition

She immediately signed a contract with a Metropolitan modeling agency, for a minimum of three years. Before heading to the American side of the Atlantic, she modeled in fashion capitals such as Paris and Milan. Heidi hates to fly, and lives out of expensive hotels, which cater to her every need. Her celebrity status affords her the best of life, and a constant demand for her talent.

With patience and effort, the modeling offers started to pour in for Heidi. She appeared in many print advertisements, including: Bonne Bell, Finesse, Gerry Weber, Givenchy’s Amerige, I-N-C, and hit it big with the Victoria’s Secret advertising campaign. As one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels, Heidi made the transition from model to supermodel, joining the ranks of Yasmeen Ghauri, Tyra Banks, Helena Christensen, and Stephanie Seymour.

While Heidi appeared on the covers of such magazines as Bride’s, Cosmopolitan, Self, Glamour, and Mademoiselle, none could live up to the recognition Heidi received as the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition’s 1998 cover girl

After winning the the cover spot on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine, Heidi’s goddess like looks would rocket her into super stardom. Appearances on the Letterman Show and Spin City would make her fans wonder if a second career is in the making. Carmen Electra

carmen electraNee Tara Leigh Patrick, Carmen Electra was born on April 20, 1972 in White Oak, Ohio. Carmen’s talents were evident when she was a child, as she was to attend the School for Creative and Performing Arts at only nine years old. In school, Carmen Electra began taking singing lessons and practicing her vocal talents. By the time she was a teenager, she was performing in musicals (as a dancer) and doing her own choreographies. Her ultimate ambition was to go to Los Angeles and sign a record deal. By the tender age of only fifteen, Carmen was on her way to realizing her dream.

Carmen Electra decided to relocate to Minneapolis, where she resided with her sister, and she made a living as a clothes model for Target department stores. After four years went by, Carmen decided to move to Los Angeles, change her then name Tara Leigh Patrick to Carmen Electra, and only one week after doing all this, Carmen ran into musical talent, Prince. Since Prince liked Carmen’s appearance and style, he signed her to a Paisley Park Records label deal in 1992. Unfortunately, despite all of Prince’s efforts in helping Carmen by promoting her and her new album, her music career failed miserably. Her single Go-Go Dancer hardly got any airtime on MTV, and when the single hit the store shelves in 1992, it didn’t sell well at all. Three years later, Carmen had renewed her flailing image and appeared on the Nickelodeon show entitled All That.

Perhaps Carmen Electras most noted move was her posing for Play boy in 1996. As well, she did a Play boy video entitled Playboy Cheerleaders, and Carmen shows off her “musical” talents by singing “2-4-6-8″. That same year, Carmen began guest hosting on the MTV Loveline.

A couple of months later, Lisa Berger, MTV’s vice president, announced that Carmen Electra was chosen to be Jenny McCarthy’s replacement on the show Singled Out. Although the deal was for 65 episodes, Carmen’s popularity was not that of Jenny’s and the show eventually fizzled. Considering Carmen was a voluptuous and beautiful woman, it was only natural that Baywatch came knocking on Carmen’s door. She came on as a replacement for Pamela Anderson and did a splendid job (no, seriously). Since then, Carmen has appeared in a comic book, was the national spokesperson for Budweiser beer, and she appeared in the 2000 sleeper comedy hit of the year Scary Movie in the famous scene running across the lawn and loosing her implants.

On the personal front, Carmen Electra relationship with Dennis Rodman has become a breeding ground for tabloids as well as the rest of the media. The two tied the knot in 1997 and separated only seven days later – with Rodman claiming that he wasn’t in his right state of mind at the time. They ultimately got an annulment. Although the two have been arrested for fighting in a hotel, the two still remain together despite all the antics and rumors that are continuously spread about them. Besides Rodman, Carmen Electra has been romantically linked to Tommy Lee, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst.

Jennifer Aniston

aniston

Jennifer Aniston was born the 11th of February, 1969, in Sherman Oaks, a suburb of Los Angeles. Her Crete-born father, John (real name Anastassakis) had been brought to the US at age 10 when his parents opened a diner in Eddytown, Pennsylvania. He’d become an actor seeking work in LA. Fellow Greek actor Telly Savalas would be Jennifer Anistons godfather, and win bit parts in the likes of 87th Precinct, Combat! and I Spy. Her mother was born in upstate New York, moving with her family to California where she’d work at Universal Studios, at one point signing autographs for Rock Hudson. Extremely good-looking, she eventually won parts in such fare as The Red Skelton Show and The Beverly Hillbillies, but lack of confidence in her ability caused her to give up acting.

Things were looking good for the Jennifer Aniston family (Jennifer also had an older half-brother, John, 9 years her senior). From 1967 to 1970, John made good money playing Eric Richards in the series Days Of Our Lives, NBC’s longest-running soap, concerning the trials and tribulations of the folks of a fictional Salem, he also appear in The Virginian and Mission Impossible. It didn’t last, however. When the part went, so did the good times. John worked as a door-to-door salesman, his only acting success being one small part in Savalas’s Kojak. His wife won a few modelling contracts, but more money was needed. John considered entering the medical profession, but was too old to be taken in by any American university. Instead, when Jennifer was 5, he began his training in Athens, taking his family with him.

Here they would remain for a year. Then John had his studies interrupted by his agent in New York. Would he care to return to the world of soap? He would, and so returned to the Big Apple for a three-year stint in Love Of Life, a major hit based around two warring sisters. John’s son would be played by an actor destined for infinitely bigger things – Christopher Reeve. Just a few years later, Jennifer Aniston and her mother would meet Reeve on the street and an embarrassed 9-year-old Jennifer would pull her mother away. The very next week Superman was released – the youngster now being furious that her mother had not persuaded her to talk to their very-soon-to-be-mega-famous pal Reeve. Of course her most famous role is in the series Friends and earlier marraige with Brad Pitt.
